During 2007, the Township Supervisors made some hard decisions on what to do with the former Mehoopany School property. One of the decisions made, resulted in the creation of the Mehoopany Park & Playground. Art Henning and Jack Simmers conceived the idea of having an area where the local children could come to play and to have a T-Ball practice field.
While Art and Jack were very instrumental in the creation of our park, they were not alone in their efforts. Bob Keehn, Jim Cappucci, Terry Campbell, Eugene Adams, Chuck Henning, Jason Burke, the Ball Association and many others all donated their time and energy to establish the Park & Playground.
After the 2011 Floods when the greater community’s Creek Junction Park was washed away, the Mehoopany Park & Playground became an official T-Ball Field. The Field is a very busy location during the spring season for our future big hitters.
The Park & Playground is open to all from Dawn to Dusk. Anyone who would like to reserve the Pavilion may phone the Township Office 570-833-2030.
The Park & Playground is almost 100% funded through monetary and time donations. If you’d like to assist with the Park, please contact the Township Office. If you’d like to make a donation, please send your donation to the Mehoopany Park & Playground Fund, PO Box 133, Mehoopany PA 18629.
The Park & Playground is in need of a concession stand for T-Ball season, and chips, Dymond-Pro Dirt, tubing for the top of the fence and stain for the shed. Your donations are most welcome.
In 2012 Mehoopany Cadet Scout Genevieve Farr established a very successful Fun Day. We are looking forward to another Fun Day this year. Stay tuned for details!
A big thanks to everyone who helps make our Park & Playground a success!
